"We are all EXACTLY where we're supposed to be"
Kate Santacruz
President
Kate Santacruz was born in Queens, New York and moved to Miami, Florida when she was 3-years-old. She attended Doral Academy Middle and High School where she was a part of the Women's Soccer Team and Key Club. In the fall of 2017, she started Santa Fe College and discovered that moving away from home definitely had its challenges, as well as its blessings. At Santa Fe, she was able to grow by getting involved with Student Government. She started as an Executive Director for SG Programs, and within a year she successfully ran for the position of Finance Chair for SGP. As the Finance Chair, she is responsible for managing a $14,000 budget and ensuring SG Programs efficiently uses the funds for executing events on campus. However, she could not do this job without the help of her Events Chair, Derrick Evans and eight Executive Directors. Along with this role, she serves as a State Executive Board member for FCSSGA - Florida College System Student Government Association. This Association consists of the 28 member colleges in Florida, where she is able to advocate on behalf of the 800,000+ students on legislative issues. During the FCSSGA Legislative Conference in February 2019, she discussed current issues, such as College Affordability, Safety and Security, and International Student Access, with Florida legislators in City Hall in Tallahassee. She also facilitated the other part of the state conference in which the students participate in leadership trainings sessions focused on civic engagement and service. Kate is currently pursuing her AA degree in Business Administration and plans to continue her education with a Bachelor’s degree at NYU during the Fall 2020. Kate looks forward to continuing to serve the students of Santa Fe for the remainder of her time at the College.
